What is Charnwood Forest School?
Charnwood Forest School provides regular stay and play sessions. Parents/carers bring their children to a weekly session in the gardens/woodland at Whatton Gardens. The session runs for 1.5 hours each week term time only.
Where do the sessions take place?
There are currently three sessions a week. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Whatton Gardens. All sessions start at 10.30am and end at 12.00pm.
What is a typical session at Forest School?
When you first arrive you will need to sign in so that we know who is onsite during the session. We start at 10.30am by gathering around the fire circle to introduce the session. Each session is loosley planned around a book, event or interest of the children. Hot and cold drinks and a snack are available during this time, and throughout the session for you to help yourself to. We will sing songs, play a game before going off to start the activties discussed around the circle. There will also be other resources availble during the session for the children to access - muddy kitchen, mark making equipment, cosy book area etc.
What activities can I expect?
The list is endless - den building, bug hunts, colour hunts, bear hunts, exploring nature, natural crowns and bracelets, natural painting, making bug homes, bird watching, litter picking, making bird feeders, journey sticks, clay faces etc. etc.

What happens if it rains?
The stay and play session will go ahead in all weather apart from in high winds and thunder storms.
How can I book a session?
Sessions need to be booked and paid for online. There are only a certain amount of available places so it is important to book in advance.
What policies do you have in place?
I have a handbook with all of the policies and procedures in place. This will be taken to each stay and play session for parents to look through as and when needed.
What qualifications/training do you have?
I am a qualified Forest School Leader, with an Education Studies degree and I am also an Early Years Teacher. I have up to date Safeguarding Children, First Aid and Food Hygiene training. These are kept up to date as and when needed.
Can I still come if my child has an allergy or an intolerance?
Please add all details of any known allergies or intolerences to the form when booking. .
Can I just turn up on the day?
Numbers are limited so booking online is essential to ensure there are not too many people in the area.
Are the Forest School sites pushchair friendly?
Is there toilet and nappy changing facilities?
Yes, we have a nappy changing tent, and also a camping style toilet inside another small tent for children and adult to use if needed.
